چکیده

The present work proposes hybridization of Expectation-Maximization (EM) and KMeans techniques as an attempt to speed-up the clustering process. Though both K-Means and EM techniques look into different areas, K-means can be viewed as an approximate way to obtain maximum likelihood estimates for the means. Along with the proposed algorithm for hybridization, the present work also experiments with the Standard EM algorithm. Six different datasets are used for the experiments of which three are synthetic datasets. Clustering fitness and Sum of Squared Errors (SSE) are computed for measuring the clustering performance. In all the experiments it is observed that the proposed algorithm for hybridization of EM and K-Means techniques is consistently taking less execution time with acceptable Clustering Fitness value and less SSE than the standard EM algorithm. It is also observed that the proposed algorithm is producing better clustering results than the Cluster package of Purdue University.

Fuzzy Clustering Approach Using Data Fusion Theory and its Application To Automatic Isolated Word Recognition

In this paper, utilization of clustering algorithms for data fusion in decision level is proposed. The results of automatic isolated word recognition, which are derived from speech spectrograph and Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) analysis, are combined with each other by using fuzzy clustering algorithms, especially fuzzy k-means and fuzzy vector quantization. Experimental results show that the...

Combination of Transformed-means Clustering and Neural Networks for Short-Term Solar Radiation Forecasting

In order to provide an efficient conversion and utilization of solar power, solar radiation datashould be measured continuously and accurately over the long-term period. However, the measurement ofsolar radiation is not available to all countries in the world due to some technical and fiscal limitations. Hence, several studies were proposed in the literature to find mathematical and physical mod...

Comparison of Clustering Approaches for Gene Expression Data

Clustering algorithms have been used to divide genes into groups according to the degree of their expression similarity. Such a grouping may suggest that the respective genes are correlated and/or co-regulated, and subsequently indicates that the genes could possibly share a common biological role. In this paper, four clustering algorithms are investigated: k-means, cut-clustering, spectral and...

Bayesian K-Means as a “Maximization-Expectation” Algorithm

We introduce a new class of “maximization expectation” (ME) algorithms where we maximize over hidden variables but marginalize over random parameters. This reverses the roles of expectation and maximization in the classical EM algorithm. In the context of clustering, we argue that these hard assignments open the door to very fast implementations based on data-structures such as kdtrees and cong...

Comparisons Between Data Clustering Algorithms

Clustering is a division of data into groups of similar objects. Each group, called a cluster, consists of objects that are similar between themselves and dissimilar compared to objects of other groups. This paper is intended to study and compare different data clustering algorithms. The algorithms under investigation are: k-means algorithm, hierarchical clustering algorithm, self-organizing ma...
